St Mary’s College in Galway city centre played host to a vibrant and hugely successful Aviva Mini Rugby Festival on Saturday, 28th March, as over 450 young players took to the pitches for a day of high-quality rugby and community spirit.

The festival welcomed 21 clubs and 37 teams from across the country, with teams travelling from near and far to take part in what proved to be one of the standout underage events of the season. From the first whistle to the final game, the standard of rugby on display was exceptional, with players showcasing impressive skill levels, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout.
The atmosphere around St Mary’s was electric all day, with multiple pitches in use and a constant flow of games keeping players, coaches, and supporters fully engaged. For many of the young participants, it was an opportunity to test themselves against new opposition, build friendships, and enjoy the game in a fun, inclusive environment.
Events like this highlight the continued growth and strength of grassroots rugby in the west of Ireland. The organisation and delivery of the festival were first-class, ensuring a seamless experience for all involved.
A huge amount of credit must go to the volunteers, coaches, referees, and parents who contributed their time and effort to make the day such a success. Their commitment ensures that opportunities like this continue to thrive for the next generation of players.
The Aviva Mini Rugby Festival once again demonstrated the very best of the game at underage level — participation, enjoyment, and development — all on show in the heart of Galway city.
