Galway Bay Rugby Club Looks to the Future as Justin Healy Chats to Galway Bay FM

Galway Bay Rugby Club chairperson Justin Healy joined
Darren Kelly on Galway Bay FM’s Over The Line this week to talk about the club’s
incredible growth – going from just 40 members to over 350 – their Fun Day this Saturday at St. Mary’s College, and ambitious plans for the future, including a permanent home ground in Kingston, Knocknacarra.

“We started with around 40 members and now we’ve got over 350 across minis & youths,”
Healy explained. “Saturday is about showing the community what we’ve built. Everyone is welcome to attend
The dream is to have our own home ground in Kingston, Knocknacarra – a permanent base for our players.”

Saturday’s Fun Day – What You Need to Know

  • 📅 When: Saturday, from 10am
  • 📍 Where: St. Mary’s College, Galway
  • 🎉 What’s on: Rugby taster sessions for all ages, kids’ games, tug of war, food stalls, Tag rugby and a chance to meet coaches and Eddie the eagle.

Focus on the Future

Healy also highlighted the club’s long-term ambitions during the chat, including securing pitch and facilities in Kingston, building a strong pathway from minis to seniors, and competing at the top level.

“Having a home ground will be a game-changer,” he said. “It will allow us to grow even more, run more teams,
and really cement ourselves as part of the Knocknacarra and Galway sporting community.”

About Joe

Joe Naughton is a Galway-based writer who spends far too much time talking about sport and not nearly enough time playing it. A firm believer that every match deserves a proper write-up, even if it was played in sideways rain in a field with no lines.
