Galway Bay Galwegians Crowned Connacht U16 Plate Champions

Connacht U16 Plate Final

Venue: Corrib Rugby Club

Date: 19th April 2025

Result: Galway Bay Galwegians 11–0 Westport

Galway Bay Galwegians produced a flawless defensive display to claim the Connacht U16 Plate title, securing their first piece of silverware with a hard-fought 11–0 victory over Westport.

In a tightly contested first half, a single Tom Malone penalty was all that separated the sides at the break, as both teams battled bravely without yielding many opportunities.

The crucial breakthrough came midway through the second half when full-back Oran Collins finished brilliantly in the corner. Stretching the lead to two scores proved decisive, as a gritty Westport side struggled to find a way back into the contest. Malone then added a second penalty with only a few minutes remaining to put the result beyond doubt.

It was a fitting and deserved end to the season for this talented GGB squad, whose progress over the past year has been hugely encouraging. With this Plate triumph under their belt, expectations will now rise that they can build on this success and challenge for Cup honours next season.
